While it is normally wrongly perceived that Engineering is a man professional, it is even worse for the Mechanical and Chemical Engineering (MECHE) disciplines. Unfortunately when one talk of Mechanical Engineering, the impression one gets is someone in overall laden with grease, but MECHE is not only overalls, oils and grease but rather about using brains and analytical skills to solve Mechanical, Chemical and Process and allied discipline problems.

There have been brave Women who have actually proved that Mechanical and Chemical Engineering is not a Man profession. The faculty has two female staffs and it is the only faculty having women staffs in the whole prospective college of Engineering and Technology.

· Prof. Mariam Rajab Halfani is the only female profession in Chemical Engineering in Tanzania.
· Mrs. Irene Kabyemeva is a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering.

Over a number of years the faculty has trained a number of female Mechanical and Chemical and Process Engineers, current female student enrolment is as shown:
